Hello ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between!
I recently found this AuthorTuber named, Kate Cavanaugh, who does these “I tried writing like…” videos. In these videos, she chooses famous authors, other AuthorTubers, and just writers in general, and researches their writing routines, then tries them out. They’re fun to watch and are quite informative! I honestly didn’t think I was going to be so motivated to write after watching them.
Now, I’m not a big AuthorTube or BookTube fan.
BookTubers usually concentrate on popular books that I don’t like, and AuthorTubers are a bunch of different writers repeating the same thing, which kind of gets to me after a while. I get what they are trying to do, but there are too many of them repeating the same things, and it’s just too much. (Not all AuthorTubers and BookTubers are like this, but there are a lot who are.) So, when I find something I enjoy watching, and is quite informative, I get excited!
Anyway, I’ve watched her Stephen King, Nora Roberts, and Neil Gaiman videos to their entirety, and have tried a few of their routines–that I liked–for myself. I discovered that I love Neil Gaiman’s idea of handwriting the first draft, Nora Roberts’ idea of letting the story flow out, no outlining or anything, and Stephen King’s idea of getting rid of all the distractions. I honestly don’t know how many words I’ve written, because I’m handwriting the drafts now, but I can honestly say that I’ve been writing a lot more and I’ve been more motivated! I stay in the story longer, as well.
Overall, I think I’m liking the flow I have going and I can’t wait to continue with it. I might have to invest in more journals, though…
Happy reading/writing!

P.S. Here’s one of her videos! This is the first one I watched, and I understand that to some she may seem a little loud, but I enjoy her energy.
I tried doing my current WIP longhand and got lost in tangents. On a screen I can just delete the whole paragraph. On paper it was a whole lot of scribbling. I want to try it again, though. I’m getting better at knowing where each scene is going . . . so I SHOULD be able to write longhand, eventually!
I’m going to go watch Cavanaugh’s Gaiman video now.:-)
I would love to hear about what you think of her videos!
